In the sunset days of the pandemic, the world stands at 116.6 million cases, with almost 2.6 million deaths. The US is still in the lead with 29.5 million cases and half a million deaths. India remains at #2 with 11 million cases, and #3 Brazil is approaching that number. Both #4 Russia and #5 the UK have over 4 million cases, but Russia is increasing at double the UK's rate so should hold onto its ranking until #5 France catches up. At #6, Spain is increasing very slowly, while #7 Italy is on the rise with just shy of 3 million cases. China is currently at #85, just behind South Korea and about to be overtaken by Latvia, a country of under two million souls.
Rankings within the US have not changed much either, with Massachusetts still at #15. (Our cases were up a third of a percentage point today.)
The other day, US News reported 10% of American adults vaccinated. You can watch the numbers go up at the CDC vaccination tracker. Alaska and a few territories are currently over 30% half-vaccinated, while Connecticut, New Mexico, and the Dakotas are over 25%. The rest of New England is among the large swathes of the country with an adult population over 20% vaccinated.
